NAME: Kyousuke Tsurugi
CANON: Inazuma Eleven GO
CANON REFERENCE: link
AGE: 13
GENDER: Male
YEAR IN SCHOOL/FACULTY POSITION: M2
APPEARANCE:
Don’t ask how long he spends on his hair every morning
PERSONALITY:
Pretty much the embodiment of the ‘cool and silent’ type, Tsurugi rarely speaks and tends to stay away from people in general. Often when the team is taking a break during practice, he’s sitting away from the group while everyone else gathers together to socialise. Even during team discussions in the clubroom, he will sit at the back and rarely adds to the conversation. For all that he doesn’t speak though, he is incredibly observant. Often he is able to notice even subtle changes in a teammate, be it physically or emotionally. Even when he knows that someone is upset, he isn’t the type to pry and believes in their ability to work out their problems themselves such as the time when Tenma became upset over schools that showed support for Raimon getting abolished. When several others tried to reason with him, it’s Tsurugi who tells them to back off and let him think about it on his own.
Surprisingly, his opinions are always taken seriously despite the fact that he’s younger than most on the team and despite the fact that he used to oppose them. More than once one of the others will actually ask him specifically what he thinks about something or even to just talk at him because he proves to be a good listener and when he does speak, he says things that are worth listening to. The few times he contributes to team discussions, the rest of the team will usually turn around and listen intently. Maybe it has with the certain way he holds himself. He’s incredibly sure of his own abilities, so much so that it borders on arrogance. He has talent and he knows it. Tsurugi is also quite intelligent and has very good analytical skills. Often he’s the first one to realize what one of the coaches are aiming for when they give a vague command that seems to make no sense. It’s also him that first realizes Gouenji’s true motives with Fifth Sector based on limited clues long before any of the adults did.
He has a certain bluntness to him that can make him seem like a jerk. When there is something that needs to be said, Tsurugi is not afraid of saying it even if it makes him look like the bad guy. He does not believe in sugar coating words either. When their coach, Endou leaves the team, he’s the one who tells the rest to suck it up and move on. Endou’s the one who led them on their revolution and he’s the one who always supported them so it’s reasonable that the team feels lost without him. Tsurugi must have been upset as well since Endou’s the one who gave him another chance but he knows moping won’t do them any good when there’s a battle to be fought. In this way he can often be harsh and coupled with his stoicness, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of things that can faze him. Even when he’s surprised, he recovers quickly or hides it well.
Despite the air of indifference he puts up, he’s actually a very caring boy. This is most evident when he is with his brother. It’s the few occasions that he allows himself to show emotion, smiling or even showing worry. To him, his brother is one of the most important people in his life and it’s also because of him that Tsurugi joined Fifth Sector in the first place. This is a side of him that he rarely shows to outsiders but as he slowly grows used to the team, he starts showing that he cares about them too, often rushing to someone who’s injured or showing that he’s upset.
That said, he can be cruel. When he first appears, that’s all he is. Of course there’s the probability that it’s an act in order to intimidate Raimon into surrendering to him. Also while his actions are rarely done based on emotion, during this point in time a lot of what he does was fueled by anger. First when Raimon defied him then again when he finally realises how terrible Fifth’s soccer really is during the match with Mannouzaka. It’s during the latter that Tsurugi’s belief in fairness and justice is finally shown. Isozaki trying to break Tenma’s leg in the middle of the game pissed him off and it led him to directly defying Fifth Sector’s orders. So unless the right buttons are pushed, Tsurugi is generally cool headed and puts a lot of thoughts behind his actions before actually carrying them out. He’s the type to not waste actions or words either and will save them for when he only sees that they’re necessary.
When he puts his mind to something though, he will put his entire being into it, whether it be something simple like training or something monumental, like a revolution. If he believes he can do it, he will try and try again until he succeeds. Never once will he slow down because he messed up. He’s the type to get back up immediately after falling without missing a beat. And when he can’t do it himself, he isn’t afraid to ask for help. He did this when when trying to learn Fire Tornado. When it seemed like he couldn’t complete the technique himself, he asked Tenma to help him and together they were able to master it.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Tsurugi’s main power is fire manipulation. This means that he can control, as well as, create fire. At his current level, he can set any object he touches on fire. This can be anything; as long as it is able to burn, he can make it go up in flames. He can also shape the fire, reduce or expand it in any way he wants. An example of this is, if he has fire, he can transform the it into a wall that can act like a shield. Once he becomes stronger, he will be able to seemingly create fire ‘from nothing.’ That is to say, he can cause air particles themselves to catch fire. A subset of his fire manipulation is that fire cannot burn him. By taking advantage of this, he can set things on fire and throw or kick them as projectiles as well as cover a body part (or his entire body) in flames without taking damage.
He has quite good control of his abilities thanks to his training with Fifth Sector. He’s also very well aware of his limits and where his strengths lie. Because of these things, he isn’t likely to try and do something he isn’t able to but instead keep it within range of what he can do as well as pace himself.
AU HISTORY:
The youngest of two children, Tsurugi lived a happy and carefree life. His parents and elder brother were kind and caring and he never knew any hardship. Life was normal but the family was content.
His powers first manifested when he was eight and it was an event that would erase the happy boy he was forever. While playing in the park with his elder brother, Yuuichi, he accidentally kicked the soccer ball a little too forcefully and making in land in a tree. Despite his brother’s protesting, young Tsurugi climbed the tree to retrieve their ball only to slip on a broken branch. In his panic, he burst into flames. The flames lasted only a second but they were strong enough to burn through the branch he was holding onto. His brother, unafraid, caught him as he fell then proceeded to shield him from the falling branch. This action resulted in his brother losing his ability to walk when the branch hit him and injured his back.
Now fearful of the power he possessed, Tsurugi became withdrawn, shying away from other people. Part of him was afraid he would end up hurting someone he cared about again and the other couldn’t let go of the guilt he felt for what happened to his brother. It was this guilt that Fifth Sector used to manipulate him into siding with them because in the years between the accident and his joining Fifth Sector, the guilt he felt became all consuming. He became hateful of himself and hateful of other mutants. To him, they were a group of people who shouldn’t exist and could only cause problems for the rest.
The time he spent with Fifth Sector was not the easiest. He was put through cruel and difficult training to control his abilities. Training that was meant to break a person’s will and the only thing that kept him going was the thought of Fifth Sector giving him money that would allow his brother to have surgery that would allow him to walk again. After he was deemed fit for society again, he was assigned to Raimon Middle School to scout for more mutants.
At first, he tried to take over the soccer team by force. Raimon was well known for its soccer and he believed that being in charge of the team would give him power over the school but this proved to be difficult as the team fought valiantly against him, led by their captain, Takuto Shindou. Beaten but not about to back down, he remained on the team and eventually suspected Shindou of being a mutant as well. He revealed this fact in an effort to have Shindou removed from the team but instead, the team took it upon themselves to start a revolution against Fifth Sector and its treatment of mutants.
Tsurugi’s job then turned from being a scout to an inside saboteur-- although this did not last long. Multiple factors that occurred during his time with Raimon began to change his opinion on the team as well as mutants but it was his brother who finally convinced him that Fifth Sector was in the wrong and that he, of all people, should know that mutants are people too.
From this point on, he began to aid Raimon’s soccer team in their efforts to protest against Fifth Sector instead of trying to stop them. In the end, they succeeded and the organization that had caused so much damage to young mutants was put to a stop. Not long after, Shindou disappeared and Tsurugi did not put much thought into where he could have gone until Shindou’s best friend, Ranmaru Kirino, approached him to convince him that they should go find their missing teammate to which he refused, at first. His experience with Fifth Sector had left him a little uneasy with any organization that gathered young mutants but eventually he found that he couldn’t exactly let two of his teammates go to an unfamiliar place alone, especially when their abilities were quite useless if they ever needed to defend themselves.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
Tsurugi set down his pen before leaning back in his chair and holding the letter he had been working on to read it over. For some reason, expressing himself through written words was much simpler than speaking so instead he’d picked up the habit of writing letters home rather than make calls. The first couple times he tried that, he’d run out of things to say almost immediately making conversation awkward and silent (mostly on his part). So he was glad there was another way for him to keep in contact to his friends and family. There was something satisfying about seeing a blank page slowly fill up with words he had written.
This particular letter was meant for his brother. In a previous letter, Yuuichi had mentioned the possibility of surgery and since then Tsurugi found he couldn’t think of anything else. He was happy that his brother would soon be able to walk again, yes, but he was also worried. If only he could be there beside his brother now.
He couldn’t though. Despite the fact that he was reluctant to come to the school in the first place, slowly as he grew used to it, Tsurugi was glad he did. Being among other mutants in an environment that wasn't damaging was... nice and for the first time he felt he belonged. Not that he told anyone else about this. No, it was something he kept to himself. Besides, there were people at the school he couldn’t leave behind either so he stayed and sent his love and encouragement to Yuuichi through letters. His brother would understand, of course. He was sure of this. No one understood him better than his brother after all.
Content with his letter, he set it back down on his desk but continued to sit there as he mused over how things had turned out for him. Never did he think he would end up here, in a school meant for mutants, no longer unhappy with the powers he was given. He almost felt normal.
How odd.
Slowly, he got up from his chair and headed over to his closet to rummage around for his soccer ball. There was still a lot of Saturday afternoon to make use of and he didn’t intend to waste it.
